Moto2 – Race – SanMarino GP

Celestino Vietti gave the Misano crowd exactly what they came for, producing a near-flawless ride to secure his first Moto2 victory of the 2025 season. Starting alongside pole-sitter Daniel Holgado, Vietti wasted no time in taking control, diving into the lead at Turn 1 and never surrendering it. From that moment on, the Beta Tools SpeedRS rider dictated the pace, staying calm under pressure and managing his tyres with remarkable precision. It was the kind of home-race performance that carried a sense of inevitability by the halfway point — a perfect mix of aggression and control.

Behind him, Barry Baltus quietly carved out one of his strongest rides of the year. After initially losing ground in the opening laps, the Belgian regrouped and began working his way forward, setting consistent times and saving enough grip for a late attack. With four laps to go, Baltus made a clean pass on Holgado for second place and briefly looked capable of challenging Vietti, though the Italian’s pace proved just out of reach. Baltus crossed the line 0.747 seconds back, but his runner-up finish showed that he has the form to fight for more podiums in the closing rounds.

Daniel Holgado, despite starting from pole, struggled to keep up with Vietti’s relentless rhythm once the laps settled in. He held second for most of the race but couldn’t fend off Baltus in the decisive stages, ultimately settling for third. The result still marks another important podium for the rookie, but it highlighted an area for improvement — defending under late-race pressure — as Holgado lost time over the final two laps compared to the leading pair.

Further back, Diogo Moreira produced a gritty ride to claim fourth, after mixing it up with Senna Agius and the IntactGP riders for much of the race. Moreira’s aggression in the middle stint allowed him to break clear and secure his best result in several rounds. Agius completed the top five, showing continued growth and consistency that have quietly made him one of the most improved riders of 2025. Championship leader Manuel González endured a more complicated race, finishing sixth and conceding valuable points. Though he still holds the standings lead, his Misano result leaves the title fight looking a little more open heading into the flyaway rounds.

The San Marino GP also delivered its share of drama further down the order, with Arón Canet finishing seventh after struggling to find the setup he needed, while Tony Arbolino recovered to ninth after a disappointing qualifying session. Adrian Huertas suffered a nightmare race, starting from pit lane due to technical issues and eventually crashing out early. For Celestino Vietti, however, there was nothing but celebration as he stood on the top step in front of his home fans, soaking in the roar of the crowd. His dominant ride not only reignites his confidence but could reshape the balance of the championship momentum if he can carry this form forward.
